Commemorating World AIDS Day 2010
Extending solidarity towards the cause of HIV/AIDS, Emcure team spearheaded by its COO & Executive Director, Mr. A. K. Khanna had planted tree in its premises on 1st December commemorating WORLD AIDS DAY 2010. Emcure has been instrumental in enhancing access to cost effective and quality antiretroviral medicines in Indian and Sub-saharan Africa. On World AIDS Day Emcure team has reiterated its commitment and pledged to continue its passion to serve the people living with HIV (PLH).

Emcure is been recognized for its commitment in the field of HIV/AIDS at the recently held “AIDS Society of India Conference 2010 (ASICON)” at Hyderabad from 29th to 31st October 2010.

ASICON is organized by AIDS Society of India (ASI) which is the largest body of HIV consultant physicians in Indian working towards imparting training on HIV/AIDS management to the medical fraternity.

Mr. A. K. Khanna, COO & Executive Director, Emcure Pharmaceuticals has received the award at the hands of the Honorable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, K. Rosaiah.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. I. S. Gilada, Secretary General, ASI, has lauded the initiatives of Mr. A. K. Khanna and Emcure in bringing forth novel medicines within the reach of needy.

Addressing the august gathering Mr. A. K. Khanna thanked the organizers and reiterated his support for bringing newer drugs and combinations and there by helping to improve the lives of people living with HIV.
Indian Hockey Team Inaugurates TAAL Peer Counseling Centre, Pune
TAAL, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Emcure continues to impress people from all walks of life. This time it was none other than the Indian Hockey team that were amazed by the spirited work carried out by the members of Network of Maharashtra by HIV positive people (NMP+).

The unique care and support center, TAAL, was started in Pune in 2005 by NMP+ with the support of Emcure. It was inaugurated by renowned film personality Mr. Nana Patekar. Within in a short span TAAL centres are spread across Maharashtra serving more than 3000 positive people.

Indian Hockey Team’s visit and inauguration of TAAL peer counseling centre on 16th September is yet another milestone in its journey to extend comprehensive services for positive people. Speaking at the ceremony Mr. A. K. Khanna said, “TAAL provides the much needed support to HIV positive people to become independent and be a part of main stream of society. TAAL centers are located in 5 districts in Maharashtra. So far more than 3000 positive people are availing services from these centers. Today TAAL – Pune & Nagpur are self sustainable and financially independent. areTAAL centre has given a new identity of extending care and support to HIV-positive people and we are moving with the objective to open TAAL centers at each district in HIV high prevalence states.”

Indian Hockey Team Coach, Mr. Jose Brasa appreciated the work of TAAL and said that they draw inspiration from their committed efforts in addressing the psycho-social issues of HIV positive people. The Indian Captain Mr. Rajpal Singh has echoed similar views “This is a commendable work from them that they had not only overcome their problems but are showing path for others to follow. For me they are the ideal people who are excelling despite all odds”. With their visit Indian Hockey Team has motivated the positive people to continue with their good.

Tibotec Pharmaceuticals has signed a royalty-free, non-exclusive license agreement with Emcure Pharmaceuticals Limited of India to distribute the Protease Inhibitor Darunavir (DRV) in India.

Tibotec has collaborated with Emcure because of the company’s strong reputation in India and extensive reach through its country-wide distribution network. The agreement will help to build a sustainable effort in India to ensure patients in need have access to Darunavir (DRV)

As a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives Emcure supported a program at TAAL, Kalyan, on “Diet Habits for Positive People” with renowned clinician Dr. Ghanshyam Asrani.

Members of Network in Thane by People Living with HIV (NTP+) and Network of Raigad by People Living with HIV (NRP+) have attended the program and got benefited from it. The focus was to improve the diet habits of positive people to keep themselves healthy. The program has evoked tremendous response from the PLH. Apart from pamphlets, diet charts were distributed to the members.

Emcure part of the US Govt drive to find better HIV treatments for children
Mr. Satish Mehta - CEO & Managing Director, Mr. A K Khanna - Executive Director and Mr. Nilesh Patel - Vice President, Emcure-USA, were privileged to be invited to a function at the White House by the First Lady of United States, Ms. Laura Bush, where she announced a new public-private partnership to promote scientific and technical discussions on solutions for pediatric HIV treatment, formulations and access. Emcure is honoured to be a part of this collaboration which includes renowned innovator pharmaceutical companies, generic pharmaceutical companies, multilateral organizations such as UNAIDS and UNICEF and the US Government.

The initiative forms part of the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and will work to identify scientific obstacles to treatment for children and take practical steps to address key barriers. Emcure enters into a strategic alliance with Bristol-Myers Squibb
Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd. has entered into a strategic alliance with Bristol-Myers Squibb as a part of latter’s global access program. Under the agreement, Emcure would manufacture the bulk drug, finished atazanavir and also market it in Sub-Saharan Africa and India.

Mr. Satish Mehta - CEO & Managing Director, Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and Mr. Lamberto Andreotti - President Pharmaceuticals, BMS, signed the agreement on 15th February 2006 at BMS Head Quarters, USA.

Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in association with Human Resource Development Network (HRDN) and Network of Positive People (NMP+ / INP+) inaugurates ‘TAAL’ – an exclusive pharmacy to provide care and support to people living with HIV/AIDS. Run by HIV positive people, TAAL provides uninhibited access to Treatment, HIV Medication at low cost and Counseling.
